Cops of the NYPD, Fantasy Football, and a Trophy

The Armchair Cop in all it's glory.

Being invited to a fantasy football draft isn’t all that odd of an occurrence for me.  Being invited to a fantasy football draft held by cops of the NYPD, now that’s something that doesn’t happen every day.  So when I received an email from Avi, a police officer here in Brooklyn, I jumped at the chance.  After all, it was a great excuse to have a few beers  and scout how my draft might go down a few days later in Cleveland.  Plus it was awesome to hear from the guys of the league on how they liked their trophy, The Armchair Cop.  You see, Avi was the one that contacted me about designing a fantasy football trophy specifically for police officers.  He had seen the couple of trophies that I did for firefighters and he was hoping I could do the same for them.  I was all for it but only under one condition. I wanted them to help in the design.  Avi and a few of the guys came to my shop and gave their input.  From handcuffs to old school aviator glasses and a 70’s mustache, they were all included.  The shoulder holster was my idea.  The legendary character Fish from “Barney Miller” provided the inspiration.  Anyway, the trophy turned out great, if I must say so myself, and it holds a special place in the history of FantasyTrophies.com.  Soon it’s going to be up on the site and precincts all over the country will hopefully see the “charm” in playing for a trophy designed specifically for them, by them.

Pick Ten It Is

My fantasy football league pulled our draft order for the 25th time and I ended up with pick 10 out of 14 teams.  Like many of you out there, I was hoping for top 5 or give me 13 or 14.  Pick ten will have to do I guess.  Right now I’m looking at going WR/WR and grabbing from the left over running backs in rounds 3 and 4.  I just can’t help thinking my anchors I my team can be Dez Bryant and Jordy Nelson.  Not a bad start.

What would you guys do?

Naming Your Fantasy Football Trophy

I’ve engraved my fair share of fantasy football trophies over the years and I’m always intrigued by some of the names leagues come up with.  Lot’s of leagues go for just a standard title that states the name of the league with an established date underneath.  I gotta say, I’m not a big fan of these.  On the creativity scale I’m going to give it a 1.9 outta 10.  I mean really, let’s spend a little more time and think of a name for the trophy.  Memorable trophies are often referred to by a single word and not by what they represent.  You don’t call the Heisman the “Best Player In College Football Award” or the Lombardi the “Super Bowl Championship Trophy.”  Likewise, a fantasy football trophy should have a unique name, that when referred to, is synonymous with your league.  Think “The Shiva” trophy from the television show “The League.”

My league’s trophy is named “The Fedele” after a memorable individual who would drink an entire can of Genny Cream Ale, in one pour, while lying down on his back and never lifting his head off the ground.  Give it a try and I think you’d see he was deserving of a fantasy football trophy being named in his honor.  It’s practically water boarding with beer.  Every time we refer to our trophy we think of ol’ Bill and his amazing talent.  Not to mention his epic love for tailgating and the Cleveland Browns.  The guy was, and still is, a true legend deserving of our lasting tribute.

So when it’s finally time to come up with a name for your trophy, think long and hard.  Don’t go the easy route but instead think of something that will add some humor and history.  Believe me, you’ll be happy you didn’t name it the “FFL Championship Trophy, Est. 2015.”   fantasy football trophy

Lisa Ann Stars in Another Fantasy

If someone would’ve told me that Lisa Ann, the #1 ranked adult film star in the world according to the NY Post,  would one day be holding one of my trophies, I definitely would’ve said to please tell me the rest of the story.  The recently retired actress and  star of such films as “Who’s Nailin’ Paylin?,” “Milf Revolution,” and “My Sister’s Hot Friend” (which also stars Nicole Aniston and Jessica James by the way)  has now joined the world of fantasy football.  An avid sports fanatic is the voice of “Lisa Ann Does Fantasy” on SiriusXM.  And believe me, she knows what she’s talking about.   All the proof you really need is the fact that she won the SiriusXM Fantasy Football League last year and will now be immortalized with an engraved plate on the front of the Throwback trophy.  Congratulations Lisa Ann and good luck this season defending your title.

The Armchair Quarterback Fireman Fantasy Football Trophy is Live!

The ultimate fantasy football trophy for  fireman is finally on the site and ready to represent your firehouse.  Yes, the Armchair Quarterback Fireman is now LIVE on FantasyTrophies.com.  What’s unique about this trophy is that you can add a customized helmet by clicking on the “plates” button on the homepage and putting your firehouse number.  I then sculpt it on the helmet before bronze finishing the trophy.  Pretty awesome!

Police Fantasy Football Trophy Moves Onto Mold Making Stage

I think the time has come for the fantasy football trophy I sculpted for the police to move onto the mold making stage.  It’s always tough to put the carving tools down and say a sculpture is finished, but I feel this trophy has reached that point.   The handcuffs are completed, the nightstick is done, and his glasses and hat are about as good as they’re going to get.  Not to mention the donut is perfectly perched on the edge of the armchair and his mustache  and shoulder holster looks right out of “Barney Miller”.  For all you police officers out there, please be patient. He’ll hopefully be ready for pictures  by the end of the week and then he just needs to go up on the site.  -Dave

Police Fantasy Football Trophy Almost Finished

The Armchair Quarterback Policeman fantasy football trophy is almost completed.  Recently i’ve been working on sculpting his gun that rests in a shoulder holster.  As you can see in the photo, it will will be tucked under his left armpit and peak out just above the armrest of the recliner and the top of his belly.  I have just a few more details to add, like the handcuffs, bullets, and nightstick, and he should be ready to move onto the mold making stage.  I know the cops here in Brooklyn are waiting for me to finish this guy and I don’t want to get on the NYPD’s bad side.

I’ll keep you all posted on his progress. – Dave

Fantasy Football Trophy as a Cake?

A fantasy football trophy as a cake?  Yes, that is what one lucky couple decided to have for the groom on their lucky day.  Hopefully the little frosted guy made it through the night and is now sitting in a frozen recliner in their freezer for one year in order to bring them some good luck.   Well probably more for the groom’s fantasy team to have good luck, but that’s neither here nor there.

A True Fantasy Football Trophy for Firemen

The Armchair Fireman is finally finished and now he just needs to go up on the site.  Before that happens though I wanted to introduce him to the fans of FantasyTrophies.com through the blog.  As you can imagine, the firehouse will never be the same as every guy will no doubt do whatever it takes to get their name on the trophy.

Engraving Plates for Fantasy Football Trophies

I’m in the middle of getting bombarded with plate orders and almost forgot I had to engrave a plate for my own league.  It’s always tough engraving a plate for the fantasy football trophy I SCULPTED when my name isn’t on the damn thing.  It’s especially tough engraving a plate though when my buddies Bill and Dan won the league again!  That’s three titles in the span of 10 years.  A feat that has never been pulled off in the history of my league.  They’re the only three time champs, along with myself, in the 24 years our league has been in existence.  I just pray they don’t go back to back.  I’ll never hear the end of it if they do.

Congrats you jerks!
